Consortium Orientation Program is an Exhilarating Experience!

By Julie:

I was lucky to be chosen to represent our Office of Admissions in attending the 46th Annual Orientation Program for the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management, in Minneapolis earlier this month.  Joined by other Simon School associates, specifically from the offices of Career Management Center and Student Services, along with four of our current Consortium students, I eagerly welcomed 15 incoming Consortium MBA students for the Class of 2014.   A fantastic group to say the least!

Consortium OP was an exhilarating but rigorous program for our students; however, the benefits far outweighed their cost of sleep deprivation!  To kick off the conference, we attended several special events hosted by corporate sponsors (i.e. 3M, Target and General Mills—where we were happily greeted and energized by the Grammy award-winning group, Sounds of Blackness!).  Included in the 6-day event was special programming for those interested in pursuing consulting, brand management, finance, healthcare as well as several other areas of interest.  Numerous professional and behavioral workshops were held each day, all leading up to the much-anticipated Career Forum, where each student had the opportunity to interact and interview with representatives from more than 65 top companies.

By the end of my OP trip, I had formed new friendships and bonded with these amazing students…leaving me even prouder to work at the Simon School.  The experience left me with a renewed ambition not only for my current role as a member of the Admissions Committee, but also to further assist in promoting the Simon School to underrepresented U.S. minorities.
