Watch: Coding Opens Doors in Finance

One year ago if you had told Jaime Staengel, a 2018 MS in Finance graduate, that she would be coding, she “would not have believed you.” But because Simon’s MS in Finance program is STEM-designated, she found herself doing just that in her Quantitative Finance with Python course. She now understands that coding opens doors in finance, including the ability to obtain and analyze large quantities of data to derive insights and drive decision-making.

These skills paid off in big way. Jaime interviewed with a Simon alum at Corning Inc. and was offered a full-time position in a quantitative finance role.

Watch: Career Search Strategies for Continued Success

Before coming to Simon, Wenxin (Nancy) Ding, a 2018 MS in Accountancy graduate, thought accounting was all about the “Big 4” firms. But after spending a year at Simon, Nancy gained a broader perspective and learned there were many opportunities beyond traditional audit, tax, and advisory roles.

Not only did the coursework thoroughly prepare her for the CPA exam, but her relationship with the Career Management Center was critical. She soon realized they gave her the tools to find not only her first job, but every job she will have throughout her career.
