Simon Story: Optimizing Delivery for Amazon

Simon gave Shahbaaz Mubeen ’18 (MBA) the tools to communicate clearly and effectively with various organization stakeholders during his summer internship at Amazon. The mastery he demonstrated in finance, technology, and operations resulted in the creation of a team dedicated to implement the project he piloted as an intern, and ultimately landed him a full-time position with Amazon as a senior program manager.

Simon Story: From #SimonStrong to Starbucks

“One thing that really stood out to me was just how warm everybody was.”

That was something that drew Jasmine Mitchell ’19 (MBA) to Simon as she was looking at MBA programs. That feeling is captured by a student-driven, grassroots phrase: #SimonStrong. In her words, “it’s who we are” and it represents how the students feel about one another and the commitment they share—something she sees as very unique to Simon’s program.

#SimonStrong is more than just a phrase, it’s a philosophy. Having benefited from mentoring by current students as she was embarking on her MBA journey, Jazz is returning the favor by reaching out to incoming MBA students. After her internship with Starbucks’ Global Marketing Strategy Division, she undoubtedly has valuable advice to share.

Watch: Coding and Data Combine for Powerful Results

Coding was the main reason Guillaume Marois, MS in Business Analytics Class of 2018, pursued his specialized master’s degree at Simon. But he soon realized machine learning was only part of the equation—the real power is in the data. Guillaume learned that cleaning data and deriving insights to inform decision making is how to make an immediate impact in any organization. 

He was able to apply his new skill sets to a project with the City of Rochester, with the goal to predict housing vacancies so the city can combat the problem proactively. It gave Guillaume his first opportunity to work with a large data set for a real client and allowed him to put his classroom insights into practice to make a difference in the community.

For Lucas Nudelman, a 2018 graduate of the MS in Marketing Analytics program, the investment Simon makes in its students was a critical factor in his decision to enroll. Whether it’s in the technology offered in the classrooms, networking happy hours on campus, or the Analytics Career Day in New York City—a chance for students to make connections with Simon alumni at companies such as EY and Nestlé Waters—Simon’s dedication to providing opportunity to its students was meaningful to his success. 

The investment Simon made in Lucas—paired with his determination in working toward his goals— paid off. He recently joined Analytic Partners full time as an associate market science analyst in the company’s Boulder, CO, location.
