The Great Game of Golf in Rochester

On this beautiful, sunny day in Rochester, New York, dozens of current students, alumni, faculty and staff teed off at Greystone Golf Club to commence the 22nd Annual Simon Golf Classic.

For years, participants with ties to the Simon School have teamed up and challenged one another on one of the numerous golf courses available for play in the Rochester area. With 18-holes to play and a post-tournament lunch provided, students, alumni and friends were able to spend the day reconnecting and networking.

This is just one instance of golf and the students at Rochester. Not only is there an active Golf Club for current students that provides lessons and other golf-related opportunities, Rochester is well-known for the plethora of courses available for play.

Currently, the Rochester area can boast of having the most golf courses available for play per capita in the United States.   The range and quality of courses is spectacular as well, particularly if you’re a beginner.  Students can go just next to the school to Genesee Valley Park not more than one mile away from the Simon academic buildings to begin learning the sport at the driving range or course available, or easily drive to Oak Hill (assuming you have a membership or are will a member) to play on that prestigious and premiere green.

With the knowledge that many business deals are made “on the back nine” of golf courses around the world, this club and the tournaments hosted through the Alumni Association and the Golf Club – such as the Annual Golf Classic – are well attended.  When you decide that the Simon experience is right for you, I encourage you to join this organization and participate in these activities.  I proudly wear my winner’s jacket from a few years ago and hope to see a similar prize to the next Simon leaders in the alumni tournament.
