Simon’s Website Receives the Best of the Web Award

By Crissi

As a part-time MBA student, I have the benefit of being able to apply concepts I learn in the Simon classroom to my workplace immediately! A great example of this is my involvement with the Simon School’s website. In today’s global marketplace, websites are an integral tool to educate the public. Marketing coursework at Simon surely realizes this and offers curriculum that discuss optimizing marketing media outlets. I have pursued classes that focus on the web specifically, of which there are several courses that specialize on the different topics therein.

I love the fact that information I learn in the classroom can be applied directly to the work I endeavor in improving the Simon website. This week, I also had the benefits of seeing the fruits of this labor: the work on a cross-functional website team within Simon; my direct contributions to the website; and, the ability to apply classroom learning for an immediate impact on Simon. I am thrilled to share that the Simon School won the Best of the Web Award for 2011!

The Best of the Web awards, presented by the Rochester Business Journal, were announced at a breakfast at the Rochester Plaza Hotel on March 8, 2011. Winning websites were selected by a panel of judges with awards presented in 11 categories. The keynote speaker was Neal Schaffer, president of Windmills Marketing, a social media strategy consulting practice and the author of “Windmill Networking: Maximizing LinkedIn.”

The Simon School website (www.simon.rochester.edu) received the Best of the Web award in the “Education” category. The other finalists in this category were Allendale Columbia School and Monroe Community College. Best of the Web awards were also presented in categories that included Banking and Finance, Business and Professional Services, Government and Economic Development, Health Care, Hospitality/Tourism, Manufacturing, Non-profit (Cultural), Non-profit (Human Service), Real Estate and Construction, Retail, Best Web Design Firm, and Digital Rochester’s Business Transformation.

Congratulations to the website team at the Simon School for this great accomplishment. I would also like to personally thank Simon faculty for teaching a marketing curriculum that is current and relevant so I could add immediate value in my work for the Simon School!
