Saturday at Simon: Oct 11, 2008

By: Tony

Greetings from Simon!  I would like to first introduce myself as the new Associate Director of Admissions and Director of MS programs.  Having started with the Simon School this past summer, I can speak from experience about how the school’s "personal-touch" culture has made it easy and enjoyable to get connected within Simon’s community of students, faculty and alumni.

The Saturday at Simon event this past weekend was an example of Simon’s strong and inclusive network being put to use.  Beginning with a welcome & lunch reception, the event allowed for prospective students and guests to comfortably talk with Simon faculty, current students and recent alumni through several venues including…

  • A faculty panel discussion, led by Professor Rajiv Dewan with panelists; Prof. Dan Struble, Prof. Larry Matteson and Prof. Ravi Mantena.  Prof. Matteson (’79) addressed the common question of "Why a Simon MBA?", with a word of wisdom Prof. Matteson heard during his studies at Simon which holds true today; "You will never casually watch the evening news again, because a Simon degree will change your thought process and you will develop an analytical way of thinking."
  • Wayne France, Director of Corporate Relations, spoke about Simon’s Career Management Center and the personal services offered to students that help place 92% of graduates in careers within 90 days of graduation.
  • The Alumni & Current student panel spoke openly about what being part of the Simon community involves during your studies here in Rochester and as a member of the Simon alumni network across the globe.  These recent alumni and current student panelists shared how Simon has influenced their career experiences at such companies as Kraft Foods, M&T Bank, Hasbro, Oppenheimer Funds and UBS.

Alumni Admissions interviews were offered to interested individuals after these sessions and the day concluded with tours of the University campus & Simon facilities conducted by Simon Ambassadors.

If you were not able to attend this past weekend’s Saturday at Simon, there will be a similar event on December 6.  To attend, you may register online at or contact the Admissions Office at 585.275.3533 or  Please R.S.V.P. by Monday, December 1st.
