Experience Simon Weekend Featuring Diversity Conference Programming — Oct. 6-7

The following post was written by Rebekah Lewin, assistant dean of admissions and financial aid

Classes are in full swing now at Simon, and it’s hard to believe our first application deadline is less than two months away! We are also getting excited about our recruitment event schedule, particularly our upcoming event for prospective MBA students, Experience Simon Weekend featuring Diversity Conference programming, on Oct. 6-7.

As in past years, we are running these events concurrently and most of the programming is shared, which creates a cohesive environment where our prospective students can get acquainted with Simon and with each other.

Students from Simon’s MBA Class of 2019 gather at The Consortium for Graduate Study in Management’s OP in June. Simon has been a Consortium member school for 49 years.

Diversity Conference begins midday on Friday, Oct. 6 and celebrates Simon’s powerful partnerships with Management Leadership for Tomorrow and The Consortium for Graduate Study in Management. The afternoon features a Diversity Leadership Panel and a Simon Social where you will network with current students and alumni, as well as the opportunity to conduct your admissions interview if you’ve started your application.

Our panelists include:

  • Deborah Brundage ’01 MBA, associate brand director, NA Always Discreet, Procter & Gamble
  • Michael Burkeen ’98 MBA, senior manager, marketing learning & development, Intuit
  • José Chan ’03 MBA, vice president of business development, Celect
  • Emerson Fullwood, retired corporate vice president, Xerox Corporation; University of Rochester Board of Trustees
  • Peter Jones ’82 MBA, chief executive officer of Mind Safety Management, LLC and agent at New York Life

Dinner on Friday is where the Experience Simon Weekend registrants join up with Diversity Conference attendees, and attend the remainder of the weekend’s programming together. We are very excited about Friday’s dinner, which features a keynote presentation by Alyssa Whitfield, founder and executive director of Dress for Success Rochester, an organization that promotes the “economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support, and career development tools to help them thrive in work and life.” Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to network with faculty, alumni, and current students at dinner.

On Saturday, Oct. 7, our prospective MBA students will fill their day at Simon with the following activities:

  • Alumni and student panels
  • Campus tours
  • Financial Aid Q&A session
  • An overview from Simon’s Career Management Center
  • A sample MBA class
  • Admissions interview (you have this option as long as you have created an application to Simon or to the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management with Simon designated as a target school)

After our formal event programming concludes late Saturday afternoon, you’ll have the option of attending a Saturday social event where you will be able to meet and mingle with current Simon students and get a taste of student life.

We are very much looking forward to these events, and we know October will be here before we know it! We anticipate registration being at capacity for these events, so I encourage you to register for Experience Simon Weekend or Diversity Conference today.

We encourage you to register by Friday, September 8 to be considered for complimentary hotel accommodations for both Friday and Saturday nights and a partial travel stipend (note that you must complete the registration process before requesting a stipend). Please send all event-related inquiries to events@simon.rochester.edu.

As always, if you have any questions about the application process, don’t hesitate to email the Admissions Office. We are always happy to help.

In the meantime, we look forward to seeing you in October!
