Commencement is just around the corner!

By: Dana

It’s June, summer is in the air, and the Simon School of Business is gearing up to hold our 2011 Commencement ceremonies on Sunday, June 12th at 10 a.m. in Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre in Rochester, N.Y.
In a recent Simon press release it was announced that Kapil Wadhawan will deliver the Commencement address.  Wadhawan is chairman and managing director of Dewan Housing Finance Corp. Ltd., one of the leading housing finance institutions in India. The Wadhawan family, owners of a billion dollar conglomerate of real estate holdings, supermarket and restaurant chains, and luxury hotels throughout Western India, pledged $1.5 million to the Simon School in 2009 to establish an endowed professorship fund—the first gift of its kind from an Indian family to a leading American business school. The Rajesh Wadhawan Professorship Fund will support a full-time faculty member who plays a leading role in advancing the standing of the Simon School and management education through service and teaching contributions with a preference for a professor making an impact in India. The gift, in memory of the late patriarch of the Wadhawan family, is from his wife, Aruna R. K. Wadhawan, and his sons, Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan.  The fund is an effort to build upon the Simon School’s top-ranked business education by growing its world-class faculty.  Kapil Wadhawan holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Bombay University and an MBA in finance from the Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia.

The Simon School Class of 2011 includes a total of 282 graduates of the full-time and part-time MBA programs (189 full-time and 93 part-time); 38 graduates of the Executive MBA program; 189 graduates who will receive MS degrees (162 MS in business administration and 27 MS in accountancy); and five graduates will be recognized for earning the PhD in Business Administration. In addition, the Simon School’s Executive MBA Program in Bern, Switzerland, will graduate 26 students.

It is with great pride that we congratulate our graduating Simon students on their achievements.  Meliora!
