Class of 2021 Spotlight: Julia Myers and Jonathan Eng

Next up are Julia Myers and Jonathan Eng, MS graduates from Simon’s Class of 2021:

Julia Myers (MS in Marketing Analytics)

Where are you headed over the summer?
I am spending the summer with family out on the North Fork of Long Island. I’ll be starting my job as an analyst at NielsenIQ remotely, but I hope to move to NYC at the end of the summer!

What was your favorite class and why?
My favorite class was Analytics Design and Application with Professor Mitch Lovett. It gave me an idea of what kinds of analytics techniques are used in the industry and how we could apply them to real world client projects, which is really helpful experience to have as I begin my career!

If you could use three words to describe your MS experience, what would they be?
Challenging, rewarding, and encouraging.

What have you learned that will help you most in your career?
I believe that the networking and communication experience that I gained while at Simon will be the most helpful in my career. I’ve learned how to not only communicate my analytics insights effectively but also how to communicate and network with coworkers and industry leaders.

What is your favorite Simon memory?
My favorite Simon memory was our graduation ceremony. It was so fun to be able to celebrate with my classmates, and as a University of Rochester undergrad Class of 2020 graduate who had the ceremony canceled due to the pandemic, it was really special to finally have a celebration on campus.

What advice do you have for prospective Simon students?
My advice would be to take advantage of all the learning opportunities at Simon and get involved outside of the classroom. There are so many clubs, networking opportunities, and social events that can really enhance your experience at Simon and further prepare you for your career.

Jonathan Eng (MS in Accountancy)

Where are you headed over the summer?
After graduation, I’m heading to the DC area! I’ll be working for EY in assurance.

What was your favorite class and why?
Professional Communications was one of the most rewarding classes I’ve taken at Simon. Public speaking was something I really wanted to work on, and this course helped me become more comfortable communicating to and within groups of people.

If you could use three words to describe your MS experience, what would they be?
Challenging, empowering, and motivating.

What have you learned that will help you most in your career?
One of the biggest things I learned from Simon is how to take on new challenges. The demands and pace of the program were a steep learning curve, but working through that has equipped me to navigate unfamiliarity in the future.

What is your favorite Simon memory?
One of the best aspects of Simon for me was the admissions process. I felt supported by the admissions staff the entire way, and having that positive experience was a great start to my time here at Simon.

What advice do you have for prospective Simon students?
Don’t be afraid to reach out to your professors or Benet CMC advisors! They really do want to get to know you as a learner and as a candidate and are rooting for you to succeed.
