Around Rochester: Skaneateles, NY

Happy Holidays from all of us in the Simon Admissions Office!  It’s been so busy here.  I think everyone has been looking forward to some relaxation time with family and friends over the holidays.  And speaking of relaxation time . . . I want to tell you about my post-Christmas spa getaway.

About 1 1/2 hours east of Rochester is the storybook village of Skaneateles.  Located in New York State’s Finger Lakes Wine Country (yes, I am back in Finger Lakes Wine Country, only this time I am visiting a different lake!), Skaneateles is situated on the north shore of beautiful Skaneateles Lake.  The lake is spectacular, a 16 mile stretch of one of the cleanest lakes in the country.

In the historic downtown district I strolled along quaint tree-lined streets and observed the elegant well preserved 19th century homes.  There are unique restaurants, antique shops, boutiques, art galleries, and distinctive shops.  After enjoying the village it was time to check in at Mirbeau Inn & Spa.  This is my third visit to Mirbeau.  I absolutely love this place!  Mirbeau makes you feel like you are visiting the French countryside with its old world French Country Architecture and peaceful Monet inspired gardens.  Mirbeau features a 12,000 square foot luxury spa.  I immediately headed for the aqua terrace, their outdoor whirlpool area.  After soaking for a while I had the completely relaxing "Essentials" classic Swedish massage.  That evening I enjoyed an amazing four-course tasting dinner at Giverny, Mirbeau’s award winning restaurant.  For someone who is a self-professed "foodie" I consider this one of the best (if not THE best) meals I have ever had!

The following day I took advantage of the workout facilities, relaxation room, sauna, and had a delicious lunch before begrudgingly saying "au revoir" to Mirbeau and Skaneateles.  What a great way to end 2007 and ring in 2008!
