25th Naming Anniversary of the Simon School

I recently had the good fortune to attend a celebration that commemorated the 25th Naming Anniversary of the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration. This event, which took place in New York City, featured J. Peter Simon ‘08S (LLD), who was presented with the Dean’s Medal Award by University of Rochester President Joel Seligman and Simon School Dean Mark Zupan. Peter Simon is a global financial executive who has coupled a successful career with a deep commitment to philanthropy and service. A longtime leader for the Simon School, he plays an integral role in advancing the School’s vision and supporting student’s success. Simon is co-chairman of William E. Simon and Sons, a private investment firm and global merchant bank. He is the son of the late William E. Simon, financial entrepreneur, U.S. Treasury Secretary, and the Simon School’s generous benefactor and namesake.

Over time, Simon has funded Simon Leadership Fellowships for more than 30 exceptional students who demonstrate a record of community involvement, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Devoted to mentoring future leaders, he personally counsels Simon students and graduates, provides internship and placement opportunities, and encourages new recruits to join the School’s program. Prior to the celebration, I hosted a reception for a group of prospective candidates interested in pursuing a graduate business degree at the Simon School. Together, we attended the ceremony, which offered our potential future students the opportunity to interact with over 200 alumni and current students. For over the past 30 years, the Simon School has partnered with New York City recruiters, and many of our current students were visiting New York City to participate in the New York Recruiting Program (NYRP). This Simon School specific event allows our current students to interview directly with hiring managers at many organizations located in New York City. With the generous support of individuals like Peter Simon, and the success of programs like NYRP, I look forward to continually obvserving our students as they flourish and strive for great things ahead.
