A total of 44 students representing 17 different business schools competed on a real business challenge provided by the Platinum Sponsor, Xerox Corporation.  Students also worked on a mini-case during the Welcome Dinner on April 23 at Premium Case Sponsor, Constellation Brands Inc.’s headquarters in Victor, N.Y. The mini-case addressed a key issue related to the wine business of Constellation Brands. Gold sponsors include Wegmans Food Markets and the Rochester Chapter of the American Marketing Association (RAMA).

Students from different schools traveled to Rochester together, but upon arrival in Rochester were integrated into mixed teams. These aspiring marketing and consulting professionals received a case packet on Saturday morning, April 24 that described a current business challenge faced by Xerox, specifically related to its focus on the health care industry. Each team then had five hours to analyze the business issues, prepare a presentation and provide recommendations to a panel of judges from Xerox and the Simon School. The overall prize money for the top three winning teams was $10,000.

The integrated team experience of the case competition is designed to emulate some of the challenges of the real world, where individuals from a variety of firms or departments are often asked to quickly establish working relationships and create successful joint projects. The winning team included two Simon students, Jatin Belani ’10 and Andrew Woodard ’11.

In addition to the Simon School, represented MBA programs included:  New York University’s Stern School of Business, University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, University of Minnesota ‘s Carlson School of Management, Georgia Institute of Technology’s DuPree College of Management, University of Wisconsin’s School of Business, University of Washington’s Foster School of Business, University of Maryland Smith’s School of Business, Wake Forest University’s Babcock School of Business, Babson’s Olin School of Business, George Washington University’s School of Business, SUNY at Buffalo’s School of Management, College of William & Mary’s Mason School of Business, CUNY Baruch’s Zicklin School of Business, Rochester Institute of Technology’s Saunders College of Business, University of St. Thomas’ Opus College of Business, and University of North Carolina-Greensboro’s Bryan School of Business.

Congratulations to all the participants and we look forward to another successful event next year!
