My Exciting New Role in Admissions!

By Julie

I’m excited to introduce myself as a new blogger in the Admissions office!   An amazing opportunity has been granted to me in recent weeks which will allow me to specialize in doing something I love…creating and maintaining lifelong relationships with members of the Simon community.  From the moment I began my (most-beloved) career at Simon and the University of Rochester 5 years ago, I’ve been on the front lines of our office, providing assistance to prospective students by phone, email and in person as well as through the many on-campus recruiting events each year.  I’ve also had the pleasure of helping to build an extraordinary campus visit program.  To be highly successful in our unique personalization efforts, we utilize our Simon Ambassadors Program to the maximum degree.  This amazing club is one of our most popular among students as they each recall the importance of communicating one-on-one with current students prior to enrolling at Simon.  The campus visit experience at Simon allows a visitor to not only meet with a member of our staff, but to also attend a class hosted by a current student (which also involves an introduction to the faculty member), as well as tour the campus and have lunch/coffee with another current student.  Therefore, most visitors are able to get the perspective of “life at Simon” from not one, but two current students in one day!   The relationships are developed that day and allow our prospective students an additional resource for communication during their admissions process.  The feeling of being valued as an applicant has always been a beneficial factor in one’s decision in choosing the right b-school and is consistently one of the reasons we hear that applicants choose Simon.

The most rewarding time for our Admissions team is when we finally welcome a new class to campus.  However, the hardest part of our jobs is letting go once the students are finally here.  My new role as Assistant Director of Admissions, which includes the specialized task of providing concierge-level service to all admitted students, allows me the opportunity to build relationships from the moment they are admitted and continue to expand upon that relationship as they become student Ambassadors and, finally, as alums.   We have the most amazing students in the world (literally), and I am looking forward to befriending each and every one of them!
