Around Rochester: Park Ave. Holiday Open House

Santa Chestnuts roasting on an open fire…

Just as expected, the festival events continue throughout the year in Rochester with the 15th  annual Park Avenue Holiday Open House Festival earlier this month.  Despite the cooler temperatures and light snowfall, crowds of people ventured out to take part in the ambiance of the "Park Ave" community.

This holiday event spans over 10 city blocks that are lined with local boutique shops and restaurants embellishing the holiday spirit.  While walking the streets among the crowd you could find a group of carolers singing on one street corner, bands playing traditional holiday favorites on the next, horse drawn carriage rides…. and yes, chestnuts roasting on an open fire.

The Park Ave community is known as one of the cultural areas in downtown Rochester because of the eclectic restaurants, bars, coffee houses and speciality shops available all within walking distance. This setting makes the area an attractive home for many of Rochester's young professionals and students from many of the area colleges… especially Simon students since it is only 2 miles from the UofR campus.
