Around Rochester: Amerks Hockey Game

By: Stefanie

On a recent Friday night, I was invited by a friend to the Rochester Americans "Amerks" ice hockey game.  I’ve only been to 2 other games since living in Rochester, so I was excited to go.  Last year, the Amerks made it to the playoffs – a proud moment for Rochesterians – only to come in last place in our division.  But this year, they are currently in last place in the North Division – not a good performance following a playoff year!

That night’s game, though, against the Lake Erie Monsters, was action packed and a high scoring game.  The Amerks scored 3 quick goals in the first three minutes of the 1st period – usually a good sign of the outcome being in one’s favor.  The crowd was ecstatic.  However, much to the fan’s (and Amerks player’s!) dismay, the Monsters came back and tied it up at 3 goals apiece which led to overtime.  No goals were scored in the overtime period, so that led to a shootout – with Lake Erie scoring the only goal to win.  An unbelieveable loss for the Amerks!

Despite the outcome, I had a great time at the game.  My friend had reserved a group suite which allowed for 20 of us in total to enjoy the game together.  The suite included a nice social gathering area including small tables and chairs as well as a kitchen area.  The price per person (which was $50) included many appetizers, sandwiches, and drinks.  In addition, just outside the box, there was private seating in the main arena with a great view of the game for all of us.

So whether you go with just one or two of your friends and sit in general seating, or go with a group and reserve a suite, I highly recommend checking out a game.  Go Amerks!
