Alumni Spotlight: Kristin A. Short, MBA ’02

Spring

Learn more about Kristin Short, Managing Director at Bank of New York Mellon and why she chose Simon:

I chose Simon for the high-quality education, small classroom size leading to a more personalized learning environment, and diverse group of students.  These aspects enabled me to take advantage of opportunities that would have been more difficult at a larger school. The Simon degree allowed me to accelerate my career in terms of responsibility, job title, and overall satisfaction.  Personally, it provided me the confidence and maturity to overcome challenges.

I work in the Security Operations division of BNY Mellon and manage the U.S. Tax Operations Department.  The department consists of over 100 individuals and is responsible for the documentation due diligence and tax reporting to the IRS for U.S. and Non-U.S. clients investing in the U.S. market.  My focus is on U.S. market regulations for U.S. and Non-U.S. investors, implementing tax initiatives, and presenting to clients.  In this role I have been in the forefront of the Company’s effort to prepare staff and clients for changes impacting tax regulations, such as the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA).

My words of advice for prospective students considering Simon Business School:
The Simon program is challenging, but the environment is supportive and rewarding.  Don’t be afraid to take initiative, welcome risks, and ask for help.  It will be worth it in the end.
